Back in May 16th, 2009 I was on my way back to Statesville with one fussy pup. She would yep, bark, and cry if you put her in the kennel in the back seat. WOW! Coming from Michigan? NO THANKS. So Mawmaw got to lay right on my lap with the A/C blowing right in her face. Spoiled already.
So after a long trip we made it back and the training began *** YOU TOO CAN TRAIN A DOG! STAY MIND STRONG IT IS A LONG JOURNEY BUT IT WILL PAY OFF*** I started on come, sit and stay and the dreaded potty training ***IT'S NOT BAD I PROMISE IF DONE RIGHT *** The breeder introduced the pups to birds which was a wounderful idea. Mawmaw loved birds from the get go, so no problems with puppy bird work. Now after a while I took her off birds and work her on the field work and retrieveing *** I DID NOT HAVE TO FORCE FETCH HER. MAWMAW IS A NATURAL LABRADOR RETRIEVER. *** I did help her learn the command HOLD, no matter what the object is; bird, hat, wallet, or a dip can.
After lots and lots and lots of bumpers thrown, shot guns fired and whistles blown she was ready to go hunting for the first time at only six months old, yeah, it was dove hunting but she did a greeeeeeeat job. As she got older I worked on more complex training like double and triple marks in land and water. This will be Mawmaw's third season and we have shot plenty of quail, pheasants, ducks and geese over her.
Good luck and Good hunt'n...
